When you bring home a new baby you never know exactly what to expect. But there are a few things you can count on for sure…challenges, surprises, love, happiness, and laughter! Our baby basics class is designed to provide parents with up-to-date information on newborn care including feeding, typical newborn behavior, sleeping, swaddling, diapering options and techniques, bathing, umbilical cord care, circumcision care, health, safety and much more.
This class can not only help you be ready for your child, but it will help you manage your “new” life more easily.
A certified lactation counselor instructs the course. Topics discussed in classes vary among latch, the importance of the first few hours baby is born, methods to increase milk production and much more. Our lactation counselor will help you to feel more confident and be more prepared so that you may successfully breastfeed your infant. Women only, please. In this class the instructor with go over the following criteria:
- How to establish a good milk supply
- Nutrition, 101 reasons to breastfeed
- Alternatives to breastfeeding-Cup, Spoon, Syringe
In this class the instructor will go over the following criteria:
- How to understand if your baby is latched correctly
- What is mastitis
- Pumping and going back to work
Both classes are to be taken BEFORE baby arrives and both classes should be taken for maximum knowledge!
**Breastfeeding classes will be back to back. If you plan to attend both classes, consider bringing a snack.
This comprehensive class is customized for first-time parents or for parents that need a refresher. Plan to attend this class in a 4-hour block. The class is designed to answer questions about labor & delivery, pain management, relaxation techniques, cesarean birth, postpartum care and what to expect from a newborn. Every family is distinctive; it is our goal to give you the information you need and the tools necessary to make the best selection to accomplish your birth plan. Knowledge is the key for calming those fears away, so come join us! Please see our Monthly Calendar for sign up deadlines and class dates/times.
NOTE: It is recommended to take this class between your sixth and eighth month of pregnancy. Please book in advance to reserve your spot! You may also consider bringing a snack.
Infant CPR & Choking
By the end of this course, you will feel confident to administer CPR to an INFANT up to 12 months old in an emergency situation. You will also be able to identify infant choking and be able to take the steps necessary to possibly save an infant’s life. Skills are taught using American Heart Association’s technique and participants will receive a certificate from Belly Bliss (but not a course completion card from AHA). Please see our Monthly Calendar for sign up deadlines and class dates/times. Space is limited, so please book your spot in advance! Each attendee needs their own ticket.
Mommy and Baby Yoga
Mom’s Yoga is geared for moms of all abilities and provides a total body workout with the benefits of yoga. Special attention is placed on developing core strength and stability – with emphasis on strengthening the back and abdomen, as well as relieving tension in the neck, shoulders, and back.
Our class is very informal and lively, and there is no pressure or expectation for your baby to “behave” in a certain way! Part of the yoga practice is welcoming the babies as they are, learning to create awareness and breathing instead of tension and stress.
Previous yoga experience is not necessary to benefit from the classes, and women who have practiced yoga before will find Mom’s Yoga is a great way to transition back to their pre-pregnancy practice and continue their practice with baby in tow! Options are given so every mom creates the yoga practice she desires.
Throughout the class, moms will stop to feed or soothe their babies and will rejoin the movements when it is possible and comfortable to do so. Sometimes during class moms will chat, kids will scream and run, and babies will cry. It’s ok! We focus on being internally calm in the midst of chaos. Come get a full yoga workout, de-stress your body, bond with your child, meet new moms, and become more flexible!
Breath, awareness, and movement come together to enhance the well-being of body, mind, and spirit. Classes also include mindfulness practice, deep relaxation, and quiet contemplation. Please see our monthly calendar for class dates/times.
Prenatal/Postnatal Pilates Combo
This specially designed prenatal/postnatal combo course is safe and gentle for the expecting mother & helps restore the core postpartum. When a woman becomes pregnant her body begins to produce various hormones responsible for causing her joints to soften. Thus a pregnant woman can be very prone to injury of the weight-bearing joints of the back, pelvis and lower extremities. Using special techniques for the pregnant woman, Pilates will help stabilize areas as well as help strengthen, tone and maintain flexibility. Pilates will also help you strengthen and gain control of muscles used in delivery. This mat class will focus on strengthening the core and pelvic floor safely and effectively by incorporating proper breathing and form. Please see our monthly calendar for class dates/times.
